I was having problems synching my iPad. I kept getting errors and had to reset the iPad to get it to work.
I restored and waited 2 hours to find out it failed. Well, not entirely. It would quit when it go to the photos.
I went to google and found similar issues from way back. The suggestion was to delete the iPad photo cache. I did and it sync’d without error.
My iPad has decided it needs hours to back up. It started the other day after I updated the software. Looking on the web, it could be a corrupt backup, a wonky app or perhaps zinio.
I tried the easy things first and deleted the last backup. It didn’t help. It still took over 4 hours to back up. I didn’t like the idea of deleting zinio since I read most of my magazines on there. But I did delete the magazines which I have read. I thought it might be NPR for the iPad. Lately I have been listening to items and adding more to my playlist. Today I got caught up and emptied the playlist. Still, the long back up.
Because I don’t trust MobileMe for calendar sync, I use iTunes to sync my calendars and contacts, I like to sync my iPad every day or two. This means I have to cancel the backup so it can continue the sun which takes a minute. I have taken to letting the backup continue overnight but that means the lower powered connection does not fully charge the iPad. This is not ideal. I really don’t want to delete zinio. Those downloads take too long with my ever shortening attention span.
I have an iPhone 3GS and an iPad. I updated the iPhone to iOS 4.0 last week and all was well.
The app developers are updating their apps to run on iOS 4 and I am updating apps every day.
The iPad runs on iOS 3.2 and will not get an update until this fall.
Many of my apps run on both devices.
When you update an app, the older version of the app is tossed and all the devices must use the same version.
Some updated apps may cause issues if you are running them on an earlier iOS. This happened to me when I did not update to iOS3.1 but some of my apps did.
Yesterday, my iPad decided it needed 2 or more hours to backup. I did delete the previous backup and try again. It still took hours and now the backup is named “unknown” and dated for 2000.
I don’t have the patience or time to go through these long backups until the fall. And I don’t know which specific app may be causing the problem. I have a lot and several have been updated.
I have a plan or sorts. I am going to delete off the iPad all the non-specific iPad apps which I don’t “need.” Then I will try the sync again. If I have to, I will delete any apps that were updated yesterday. Luckily, the older versions were tossed in the trash and my OCD self did not empty it last night.
Hopefully this will solve the problem. But I wonder about people using older iPhones and iPod Touches which cannot be upgraded to iOS 4.0.
Weird. Even if you rename your photos in Lightroom and on export, iPad puts them in order of the original file name. Or maybe it is using capture time for sorting.
